My In-Flight Essentials for Healthy Travel

Big rewards can sometimes mean overcoming big obstacles. With health and travel, that can mean exposure to sickness, dehydration, and digestive issues. While it's obviously alllll worth it, it can be a pain. I'm on the go a lot and ALWAYS prepared. When exploring a new city, the last thing I want is to be bloated, tired, or moody. Here are my essential travel supplements, powders, and elixirs to ensure I land feeling good and ready to explore.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

I've posted about this on the blog before; it's life-changing. Our skin becomes so dehydrated in the air. This mask soaks straight into your skin for a baby-smooth face. If I'm taking a long flight, I apply this halfway through and when I land. It's a must.

Eye masks

I just started using the Loops Beauty under eye masks, and they work wonders as well. These are only essential on red-eyes for me, which I happen to take more often than I'd like to admit (I like efficiency). They are great towards the end of the flight when you're waking up because, let's be honest, even first-class to Dubai doesn't mean you don’t wake up puffy and tired.

Beekeepers Naturals B.Immune Throat Spray

We are exposed to SO MUCH when we fly. If that wasn't obvious to people pre-covid, it sure is now. Making sure our immune system fends off any unwanted germs in the close quarters of an airplane is so vital for travel. The Beekeepers Propolis is 10x better than any airborne.

Probiotics

Probiotics are the key to good gut health. I love getting my probiotics from things like yogurt, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kimchi at home. But when traveling, I can't always ensure I'll be getting my daily scoop of Coconut Cult for dessert. So I always take probiotics with me. I love the Sakara Life Complete Probiotic for this. They make me feel 10/10.

Energy bars

"Emergency" bars are a must for me when traveling. I always always have a bar with me because 1. you never know what the airport options are, and 2. you never know if your brother will get hangry after not eating for an hour (this happens nine times out of 10). I'm really picky about my bars. Most have complicated unnecessary ingredients. The Sakara Energy Super Bars were perfect for my last trip because they were filling, clean, and, well, gave me energy during my 2-hour climb to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town.

Ginger or peppermint tea

Again, this is primarily essential on long flights for me because that's where digestion can really get screwed up. I try not to eat on shorter flights (you bet I'm eating before/after), but on 6+ hours, I'm bound to be hungry, so I bring ginger or peppermint tea with me because it helps soothe the digestive tract and stomach.

Vitamin D & Omega 3

These are my two essential daily vitamins, so of course, I'm bringing them with me on a trip. Both are great for mental health. Vitamin D also helps support immunity while Omega-3 helps decrease inflammation, both important for flying.

Digestive enzymes

These are not always in my bag, but if I have room, digestive enzymes can be great for longer trips where I know I'll be eating things out of my everyday diet. Maybe I'm in Italy and eating a lot more gluten, or I'm in France and consuming dairy every other meal (although these things tend to cause fewer issues in Europe than in America). I also might be eating more than I'm used to or just eating at odd hours. Regardless, I want to enjoy the food because it's part of enjoying the culture. My favorite digestive enzymes are My Girl Wellness Eat Your Heart Out. They save my stomach.

Hilma Co.

Another supplement I bring for stomach support is the Hilma Co. Gas Relief. I love their entire digestive essentials selection, but I tend to get that "knives in stomach" pain after flying for a while when my digestion isn't going correctly. This helps immensely.

Aloe Vera

Probably my number one digestive tip for traveling is aloe supplements – these things have been a game-changer. Let's be honest, a lot of people get constipated after traveling. Our digestion shuts off in the air. Aloe helps soothe and relax the digestive tract to keep things moving. The one I use is Herbal Secrets.
